City of Greenville issued the following announcement on Nov. 10.
The Greenville City Council will end its Red Light Safety Camera Program on November 15, following a 5-1 vote during its meeting on Monday night.
The Council authorized the City Manager to negotiate a wind-down agreement with American Traffic Solutions, Inc., an agreement that will include finalizing the processing of citations, collection of equipment, and exchanging of records. Council member Rick Smiley was the lone vote against ending the program.
No citations will be issued after the November 15, 2022 end date, and the cameras will be deactivated at that time.
The cameras, which have been at five Greenville intersections since October of 2017, were installed in an effort to increase traffic safety in the city by reducing red-light running violations, collisions, and injuries without impacting City funds. Since their installation, total vehicle crashes at intersections with red light cameras have decreased by 29 percent.
