Congressman Don Davis, representing North Carolina’s 1st district, shared several updates on community and veteran initiatives through his social media platform. Davis, who succeeded G.K. Butterfield in 2023, has been actively involved in various community and national issues.

On November 22, 2024, Congressman Davis highlighted a significant event in the Wilson community. He noted that “The Wilson community came together to celebrate the grand opening of the new Wilson Area School-Based Health Center at Darden Middle School!” This development marks an important milestone for local healthcare accessibility.

In another post on the same day, Davis addressed veteran health concerns during a recent forum. He emphasized the need for comprehensive support for veterans, stating that “The smoking rate among veterans is nearly double that of the non-veteran population.” As a veteran himself and co-chair of the Tobacco Harm Reduction Caucus, he underscored his commitment to advocating for tobacco harm reduction among veterans.

Later on November 22, Congressman Davis introduced James Peebles as part of his “Friday in the First” series. He described Peebles as “a Winterville resident and a dedicated community leader.” Peebles has had an extensive career with over 35 years of service in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Supreme Court Police.
