Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D., posted a series of messages on social media addressing issues ranging from honoring military service members to advocating for visa programs and international trade. Murphy, who has consistently won his seat in Congress in recent elections, shared his views on August 7 and 8, 2025.

On August 7, Murphy marked Purple Heart Day by expressing gratitude to wounded veterans and those who lost their lives in service. He stated, “Today, on Purple Heart Day, we honor the men and women who were wounded on the battlefield or lost their lives in service to our nation. Thank you to those who sacrificed so much in defense of our freedoms.”

The following day, Murphy addressed the ongoing physician shortage in the United States. He highlighted the importance of H1-B visas for foreign doctors by writing, “H1-B Visas are critical for helping alleviate the severe physician shortage this nation faces. We cannot train enough American Doctors fast enough. We can’t let lack of knowledge of the importance of this program to affect patient care.” The U.S. has faced persistent challenges in training enough medical professionals domestically to meet demand.

Later that morning, Murphy commented on trade relations with Switzerland: “My greatest hope for today is the trade situation with Switzerland is worked out quickly. The Swiss have always been great partners in Medicine, Foreign Affairs and even Chocolate. Let’s get this done.” Switzerland has historically maintained strong ties with the U.S., particularly in medical research and pharmaceuticals.

Murphy’s statements come as he continues to represent his district following several electoral victories since first winning office in 2019 against Allen Thomas. He was re-elected against Daryl Farrow in 2020 (63.4% to 36.6%), Barbara Gaskins in 2022 (66.9% to 33.1%), and Gheorghe Cormos in 2024 (77.4% to 22.6%).
