Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D., has used his social media platform to comment on recent political developments, including government shutdowns and international crises. Murphy, who has represented North Carolina in Congress since 2019 and has consistently won re-election by wide margins, addressed issues ranging from hurricane preparedness to the situation in Haiti in a series of posts in early October 2025.

On October 5, 2025, Murphy criticized Democratic lawmakers for their handling of government funding during hurricane season, stating, “During hurricane season, when NC is extremely vulnerable, Democrats pushed for a government shutdown and allowed NFIP authorization to lapse. There are real consequences when Democrats refuse to put Americans first and stick to their partisan agenda.”

Later that same day, Murphy turned his attention to the crisis in Haiti, posting, “Enough of the killing. Haiti needs to be taken back from the murderous and soulless gangs that are tearing this nation apart.”

On October 7, 2025, Murphy addressed the ongoing government shutdown, directly referencing Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer: “Day SEVEN of @SenSchumer Shutdown. ALL because he is afraid of a Bartender….shame on you Chuck for putting those here illegally above our troops.”

Murphy has maintained a strong electoral record in North Carolina’s congressional races. In 2024, he defeated Gheorghe Cormos with 77.4% of the vote; in 2022, he won against Barbara Gaskins with 66.9%; in 2020, he prevailed over Daryl Farrow with 63.4%; and in 2019, he secured victory against Allen Thomas with 61.7%. These results reflect his sustained support among constituents over multiple election cycles.
