COUNTY OF GREENE: Updated COVID-19 Boosters Available at the Health Department

County of Greene issued the following announcement on Sept. 10.

Updated COVID boosters are available in North Carolina,following the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) announcement last weekthat people 12 and older can receive an updated booster to protect against the latest COVID-19 variants.

The updated booster is referred to as a bivalent vaccine as it targets both the original coronavirusstrain and the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants.

The Pfizerbooster is available for individuals ages 12+ and the Moderna booster is available for individuals ages 18+.People should get the updated COVID-19 booster two months after they finish their primary series or any booster dose.

Children ages 5 to 11 years old can still receive theoriginal booster shot, if their primary series was Pfizer, but it is expected that the updated booster will be available for younger people in the coming weeks.

COVID-19 vaccines are free to everyone.Greene County Department of Public Health will begin offering these boosters on Monday, September 12, 2022.
