COUNTY OF PITT: DSS Hosts STEPP Job Fair for Parents August 30

0Comments

County of Pitt issued the following announcement on Aug. 29.

Pitt County Department of Social Services (DSS) is hosting the Supporting

Training and Employing Parents Program (STEPP) Job Fair on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 from 10:00 a.m.

to 1:00 p.m. at the Pitt County NCWorks Career Center located at 3101 Bismarck St, Greenville.

Custodial and noncustodial parents will have the opportunity to meet face to face with employers

searching for factory, industrial, customer service and food service positions. Resume assistance

is available prior to the event.

The following employers will be represented: Mega Force, Parkers Barbecue, East Carolina Home Care,

Hexacomb, ECVC and Disability Advocates & Resource Center.

“The goal of STEPP (Supporting, Training, & Employing Parents Program) is to accomplish dual

self-sufficiency for both the noncustodial parent and the child support caretaker. We access needs,

assets, and barriers to employment to help noncustodial parents become self-supporting so they can

pay their court ordered child support obligations. Our program has partnered and worked with NC

Works since the beginning of the program in April 2021,” says Sonya Scott, Family Support Services

Program Administrator.

The purpose of DSS is to enable individuals to function at their maximum capacity, become

self-sufficient, improve their standard of living, learn to cope adequately with their problems and

provide preventive services that will avoid family breakup and enable individuals to remain in

their own homes. STEPP contributes to that purpose by helping parents with employment assistance,

job search training, career exploration, skills training, resume writing, educational support and

tuition assistance.
