The Greene County Senior Services has released its March 2026 newsletter, providing updates on recent activities and community statistics.

Data from the 2022-23 school year show that college readiness among students in Greene County remains a concern. According to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, only 8.6% of senior students who took the science portion of the ACT were considered ready for college. Among juniors, this figure was 7.1%. Similar trends appeared in other subjects: 15.1% of seniors met college readiness benchmarks in reading, while juniors reached 12.5%. In math, just 8.6% of seniors demonstrated college readiness. For English, 18.3% of seniors were considered prepared for college-level work (https://www.dpi.nc.gov/).

These results highlight ongoing challenges in preparing students for post-secondary education within Greene County schools.
