Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D., shared a series of statements on his social media account between July 17 and July 18, 2025, addressing various health care issues and policies.

On July 17, Murphy commented on recent administrative actions related to health care costs. He wrote, “Putting patients at the center for their care, not PBMs and insurers, makes health care cheaper. Great moves by the Trump Admin to help keep driving costs down.” Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) are intermediaries in the pharmaceutical supply chain that negotiate prices between drug manufacturers and pharmacies. There has been ongoing debate about their role in driving up or reducing prescription drug costs.

Later that day, Murphy addressed concerns regarding chronic venous insufficiency in older adults. In his post from July 17, he stated, “Chronic venous insufficiency is a common malady in those over 70. It’s called Gravity. Nothing to see here. @POTUS will be just fine.” Chronic venous insufficiency is a condition where veins have trouble sending blood from the legs back to the heart and is particularly prevalent among elderly populations.

On July 18, Murphy commented on certain types of surgeries performed before legal adulthood: “This is life changing surgery done before the age of consent, if not dealing with cancer, is malpractice and should be halted immediately. Sadly, much of this done as a profit center. Glad to see it stopping.” The congressman did not specify which procedures he was referencing but indicated concern about surgeries performed on minors for non-cancer-related reasons.

Murphy represents North Carolina’s 3rd congressional district and has previously worked as a physician prior to serving in Congress.
