Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D., has recently used his social media platform to address a range of political and policy issues, including tax reform, crime, and pharmaceutical advertising. Murphy represents North Carolina’s 3rd congressional district and has consistently won reelection by significant margins since first taking office in 2019.

On September 8, 2025, Murphy posted about recent Republican efforts to lower taxes for working families. He stated, “Republicans voted to provide working families in America with historic tax cuts and relief. Without action, the average taxpayer in NC-03 would have been hit with a 27% tax hike. Now, because of reform and accountability, all working Americans can keep more of their hard-earned”.

The following day, on September 9, Murphy criticized North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper’s record on crime. In a strongly worded message directed at the governor’s official account, he wrote: “This is BS @RoyCooperNC. You were weak on crime and all in for criminals. You play to your far left and cater to criminals and now it has come back to haunt you. Shame on you. God forbid this would happen to your of your loved ones.”

Later that same day, Murphy commented on federal actions regarding pharmaceutical advertising. He acknowledged steps taken by President Joe Biden and Secretary Kennedy but called for further measures: “I would like to applaud @POTUS and @SecKennedy for action on Direct to Consumer Advertising. A good first step. Needs to be eliminated completely as it drives up drug cost and utilization.”

Murphy’s comments come as he continues his tenure representing North Carolina’s 3rd district—a seat he has held since winning a special election in 2019 against Allen Thomas (61.7%–37.5%). He went on to defeat Daryl Farrow in 2020 (63.4%–36.6%), Barbara Gaskins in 2022 (66.9%–33.1%), and Gheorghe Cormos in 2024 (77.4%–22.6%).
