Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D., a Republican representing North Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District, used his social media platform on September 26, 2025, to comment on ongoing budget negotiations in Congress and the role of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

In a post from that day, Murphy stated, “Back in March, when faced with a nearly identical situation, Schumer voted in favor of a clean continuing resolution. In response, progressive Democrats became outraged, jeopardizing his grip on the Senate Democratic Caucus and even his own future in the United States Senate.” He continued his criticism of Democratic leadership by writing, “Republicans are committed to keeping the government open, while being good stewards of taxpayer dollars. Democrats are committed to obstruction and fabricating all sorts of lies to the American people to cover their true intentions – to protect their own and stick it to President” (September 26, 2025).

In another message posted seconds later on September 26, Murphy added: “I am sick of political games. Democrats need to show up and do their jobs. The last thing we need is a Schumer Shutdown.”

Murphy’s comments come amid heightened partisan tensions over federal spending and efforts to avoid a government shutdown. His posts reflect broader divisions between Republicans and Democrats over fiscal policy and legislative priorities.

Congressman Greg Murphy has held office since winning a special election in 2019 against Allen Thomas with 61.7% of the vote. He subsequently secured re-election victories against Daryl Farrow in 2020 (63.4%), Barbara Gaskins in 2022 (66.9%), and Gheorghe Cormos in 2024 (77.4%).
