Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D., posted a series of statements on his social media account in October 2025, criticizing Democratic policies related to health insurance and the ongoing government shutdown.

On October 10, 2025, Murphy commented on insurance company profits since the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and recent Democratic proposals: “Agree completely @RepMTG. Take a look at Insurance Company profits since the ACA. Now Dems want to continue the Temporary COVID Premium Tax Credits just to subsidize Big Insurance. They need to be reigned in. Biggly”.

Later that day, Murphy referenced remarks by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and addressed the impact of the federal government shutdown: “Every day gets better for us.” – Chuck Schumer

750,000 federal employees are furloughed, over 1 million military families will miss their next paycheck, and the American people are without important services.

The Democrat government shutdown is nothing to celebrate.

On October 11, 2025, Murphy continued his criticism of what he described as “Democrat political games,” while noting his offices remain open: “Another day of government shutdown is another day the American people must suffer the consequences of Democrat political games.

My offices in DC and the district have remained open to help Eastern North Carolinians navigate this difficult time.”

Murphy represents North Carolina’s 3rd congressional district and has won multiple elections since first being elected in 2019. In 2024, he defeated Gheorghe Cormos with over three-quarters of the vote; previous victories include wins against Barbara Gaskins in 2022, Daryl Farrow in 2020, and Allen Thomas in a special election in 2019.
