Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D., has recently addressed several health care issues in a series of posts on his official Twitter account. Murphy, who represents North Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District and is a practicing physician, commented on medical training standards, Medicare reimbursement rates, and veterans’ access to care.

On July 15, 2025, Murphy expressed concern about the credentialing of foreign-trained physicians in the United States. He stated: “Extremely disturbing trend is allowing physicians trained overseas to practice in the US wo American training. Medical Education overseas is NOT of the same quality as that in the US. Patients will suffer.”

The following day, July 16, 2025, Murphy reported on his participation at a conference organized by @SpecialtyDocs regarding health care challenges in America. He highlighted the issue of declining Medicare reimbursement rates and their impact on rural communities: “It was a pleasure participating in a conference hosted by @SpecialtyDocs to discuss the top issues facing American health care. We cannot continue to allow Medicare reimbursement cuts to persist and erode access to care in rural communities.”

Later that same day, Murphy referenced his work with veterans through congressional hearings: “The @HouseVetAffairs Subcommittee on Health held a hearing to discuss VA Community Care and how we can improve access to high-quality services and the timely delivery of care.

As the representative of over 76,000 veterans, I will always fight to deliver on our promises to you.”

Murphy’s comments come amid ongoing national debates about medical workforce shortages and rural health care funding. According to recent reports from industry groups and government agencies, rural hospitals have faced increased financial pressures due in part to reductions in Medicare payments. Additionally, Congress has continued oversight into how Veterans Affairs provides community-based medical services for former service members.
