North Carolina State Representative Gregory F. Murphy has expressed his commitment to advocating for federal funding benefiting over 76,000 veterans and military installations, including Camp Lejeune, Cherry Point, and New River. This initiative is part of the Fiscal Year 2026 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs bill.

“As the representative of over 76,000 veterans, as well as Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Stations Cherry Point and New River, it is my honor to advocate for federal funding on their behalf,” said Rep. Gregory F. Murphy.

The Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2026 was introduced on June 12, 2025, by Representative John R. Carter from Texas’s 31st district. The act provides fiscal year 2026 funding for military construction and the Department of Veterans Affairs. It encompasses appropriations for various branches of the military, NATO programs, base closures, and housing efforts.

Murphy said in a press release: “I proudly supported FY 2026 appropriations to increase the VA’s budget by 10 percent and ensure that our service members and veterans receive the resources they need and deserve.” He emphasized North Carolina’s pride in being home to numerous active-duty military members and retirees. Murphy also expressed gratitude for the inclusion of the Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act in the package as well as supporting language for the F-35 sustainment center and utilities upgrade for future F-35 squadrons.

According to Congress.gov, the bill allocates funds for various VA operations such as benefits, health care, cemeteries, administration, and related agencies like the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims and the Armed Forces Retirement Home. It also includes stipulations on fund usage.

Murphy is currently serving his fourth term representing North Carolina’s Third Congressional District. He is a member of several committees including the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Veterans Affairs Committee. Additionally, he co-chairs the House GOP Doctors Caucus. Murphy holds degrees from Davidson College and the University of North Carolina’s School of Medicine and is recognized as Congress’s only practicing surgeon.
