North Carolina State Representative Gregory F. Murphy described the attack on former President Donald Trump as a “grave day in American history” and expressed relief that Trump was “capable of walking off the stage.” Murphy made his statement in a July 13 post on X.

“My statement on the attack on President Trump: Today is a grave day in American history,” said Rep. Gregory F. Murphy. “While the news is still unfolding, I am deeply shaken by the likely assassination attempt on President Trump on the campaign trail. I’m grateful that he was capable of walking off the stage, and thank law enforcement for their swift action. My prayers are with President Trump, his family, his staff, and for this nation.”

According to CBS News, the investigation into the assassination attempt on Trump is ongoing following his public appearance at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Trump, who was shot at a Pennsylvania rally, was seen with a bandaged ear but received a supportive welcome from the crowd. New details indicate that bystanders had reported the gunman on a rooftop before the attack.

Murphy is currently serving his third term representing North Carolina’s Third Congressional District, which includes significant regions of Eastern North Carolina. He holds key positions on committees including the House Ways and Means Committee, the House Veterans Affairs Committee, and the Committee on House Administration. Additionally, he co-chairs the House GOP Doctors Caucus.
