Rep. Gregory F. Murphy stated that Hamas is not capitulating unconditionally, asserting that Israel has a right to retaliate in response to their aggressive actions. He also suggested that the President of the United States (@POTUS) should be condemned for siding with “savages”.

“Hamas is not offering an unconditional surrender. Israel has EVERY RIGHT to eradicate them after their brutal attack. It is HAMAS who is using innocent Palestinians as shields, not Israel. Shame on @POTUS for taking the side of savages,” said Gregory F. Murphy, Representative, according to X.

Murphy’s remarks were made in reaction to a report by Politico regarding the U.N. Security Council’s decision to adopt a resolution favoring a cease-fire in the conflict between Israel and Hamas. This followed the U.S.’s decision to abstain from exercising its veto power.

According to the United Nations, the Security Council passed a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during Ramadan and the unconditional release of all hostages. This represents the Council’s first explicit call for a ceasefire since Israel launched a military offensive in response to an attack by Hamas and other Palestinian groups. The U.S., which had previously vetoed three Council texts, abstained from voting following intensive negotiations among Council members over the weekend.

The United Nations Charter delineates six principal organs, entrusting the Security Council with maintaining global peace and security and convening whenever peace is threatened. As outlined on its webpage provided by the United Nations, it serves four core purposes: maintaining peace, fostering friendly relations, resolving international issues, and promoting human rights.

In his third term representing North Carolina’s Third Congressional District, which includes significant regions of Eastern North Carolina, Murphy holds key positions on committees including the House Ways and Means Committee, the House Veterans Affairs Committee, and the Committee on House Administration. According to his About Greg webpage provided by the House, he co-chairs the House GOP Doctors Caucus and is currently the only practicing surgeon among congressional members.
