A #ReopenNC rally gathered approximately 100 protesters in Raleigh on April 14, to persuade Gov. Roy Cooper to lift restrictions that they claim are preventing them from working and restarting the economy.
According to ABC News Channel 12, the group is advocating for the economy to reopen by Wednesday, April 29. However, their assembly likely violated Cooper’s stay-at-home ordinance.
Rep. Chris Humphrey (R-Pitt) told the network that North Carolina needs a plan since federal assistance remains slow.
“We didn’t expect the federal government program to take so long to get implemented," the Republican said, who was asked to participate in the reopen rally, according to ABC 12. "So that’s caused a lot of anxiety in folks and they’re ready to go back to work, according to ABC News Channel 12. He serves on NC House Select Committee on COVID-19.
According to News and Observer, the Raleigh County Police Department said that protesting was a “non-essential activity” on their Twitter page. They asked protestors to leave. At least one woman was arrested for violating the peace.
