North Carolina House Majority Leader John Bell (R-Greene) touted Republican efforts to expand broadband Internet access across the state, particularly to rural areas with poor internet access.

In a Facebook post on July 31, where he shared a video from the North Carolina House Republicans, Bell discussed the increased importance of access to a reliable internet connection in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis.

"From remote learning and working from home to telehealth and economic growth, it is critical we close the digital divide for all North Carolinians," Bell said in the Facebook post.

The video Bell shared states that 197,139 households across the state with a student have no internet access. To address this digital divide, the General Assembly approved $150 million to be spent on rural broadband expansion over the next decade.

"Thankfully, this legislative session, the Republican-led General Assembly approved several important bills that will help connect more homes and businesses to reliable, high-speed internet," Bell said.
