TOWN OF FARMVILLE: Farmville Dogwood Festival

Feast

Town of Farmville issued the following announcement on Apr. 12.

Located in the heart of eastern North Carolina, the community of Farmville has proudly hosted the Farmville Dogwood Festival for over 30 years. The festival is held each April in the town commons. The manicured lawn of the commons is dotted with stately oaks, azaleas, dogwoods and a burst of color from annuals and perennials. Visitors make an annual pilgrimage to Farmville to reunite with family and friends.

The Dogwood Festival has been honored as a legacy festival by the Library of Congress. The festival proudly reaches across all demographics to provide a weekend of entertainment that appeals to all patrons. Festival attendance has been estimated in some years at over 30,000.

The center of the commons features the arts and crafts pavilion. It is the focal point of the festival, displaying the artistic talents and workmanship of the artisans of eastern North Carolina. These wares are available for sale to the public. The festival committee carefully selects artisans that compliment each other and provide a diverse array of craftsmanship. Examples of past artisan wares have included woodworking, stained glass, pottery, jewelry, framed artwork, photography, soaps and many other handcrafted treasures.

Surrounding the pavilion is a number of venues that accent the town commons. Nearby is the gazebo which displays a constant stream of local musical talent. The Kids Cool Fest tent provides the youth an opportunity to create crafts and to have fun, all free of charge. Lining the street are food vendors providing a potpourri of delicacies. Behind the town hall are rides provided by Michaels Amusements that appeal to all ages. The ball field is where our headline musical acts perform at night for festival patrons.
