Today, Congressman Greg Murphy and Congressman David Rouzer hosted the 3rd Annual Water Adaptations to Ensure Regional Success (WATERS) Summit in Greenville, NC. The summit focused on flood mitigation and brought together hundreds of participants from North Carolina and across the country.
"This year's WATERS Summit was a huge success as hundreds from our great state, and all across the country convened to engage in a robust discussion focused on flood mitigation," said Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. He emphasized the firm commitment of all participants to ensure North Carolina is capable of managing various waterway issues. "The importance of protecting our businesses and communities as well as preserving our beautiful environment is second to none."
Congressman David Rouzer highlighted the devastating flooding that many communities in North Carolina have experienced due to major storm events. He expressed the need to better prepare for the future and protect North Carolinians from flood risk. "During today's third annual WATERS Summit, we again convened leading experts to build on our previous summits as we work to better prepare for the future and protect North Carolinians from flood risk," said Congressman Rouzer.
The purpose of this bipartisan conference was to examine human adaptation strategies to waterway challenges in North Carolina and develop legislative plans to combat these challenges over the next 5, 25, and 100 years. The event welcomed over 200 public officials, field experts, and stakeholders, breaking the previous attendance record.
The summit aimed to harness new technologies and better utilize the agriculture community to manage the state's water resources. It also emphasized the importance of working at every level of government to improve North Carolina's flood resiliency.
