Three nurse leaders from ECU Health have taken on significant roles as district representatives for the North Carolina Organization for Nurse Leaders (NCONL). Laura Respess, Dawn Tetterton, and Jenny Parnell are working to advance patient care and advocate for the nursing profession across the state.

Respess, who recently completed her term as a district representative, managed communication within District VI. She organized meetings and educational sessions and facilitated contributions for events like annual conferences. "One of the things we’ve always advocated for at ECU Health is having nurses on boards," Respess stated. She emphasized the importance of staying informed about statewide developments and understanding legislative matters affecting nursing.

Tetterton has stepped into Respess' role, aiming to continue showcasing the work done at ECU Health through NCONL. "We submit several posters and abstracts annually," she said, noting that their work often receives recognition at conferences. Tetterton praised Respess' leadership over the past six years and expressed her commitment to furthering district diversification.

Parnell was inspired by a former nurse leader to join NCONL years ago. She highlighted the benefits of involvement in the organization, especially post-COVID. After serving on a practice committee focused on evidence-based practice, Parnell self-nominated for a district representative position. Her goal is to help others grow by sharing her experiences.
