The City of Greenville received an $88,775 Environmental Enhancement Grant (EEG) in October from North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein to address erosion along the Green Mill Run stream.
The money will go toward restoration work along a 75-foot section of the stream, Greenville city leaders said in an October release.
"That Greenville will be receiving an Environmental Enhancement Grant for streambank restoration along the Green Mill Run comes as extremely good news, as the environmental quality of our streams [and] rivers is of high importance to our city, residents, and visitors," Greenville Recreation and Parks Director Gary Fenton said in the release.
EEGs are reimbursement grants provided through Stein’s office to address environmental needs, including storm-water remediation, land and wildlife habitat conservation, environmental education, and stream stabilization, the city said in the release.
"Greenways and riverfronts are just two examples of how a well-preserved environment can bring activity to a community," Stein said in the release. "I am pleased to help the City of Greenville protect these important assets."
