County of Pitt issued the following announcement on Mar. 28.
The Pitt County Extension Office in cooperation with the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ (NCDA&CS) Pesticide Disposal Assistance Program, a NON-Regulatory and Cost-Free program, is offering a Pesticide Collection Day for residents in Pitt County and surrounding counties on Wednesday, April 6, 2022.
This amnesty collection event is scheduled every two or three years and nearly all residential and farm pesticide products will be accepted, including banned and outdated pesticides.
The collection is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Pitt County Agricultural Center located at 403 Government Circle, Greenville.
“Pesticide Collection Day allows residents and farmers to properly dispose of pesticides to keep chemicals from entering our landfills and water treatment systems. The Pitt County Extension Office expects an excess of 7,000 pounds of pesticides to be dropped off during the event,” says Mitch Smith, Agricultural Extension Agent.
Contact the Pitt County Center N.C. Cooperative Extension Office at 252-902-1709 for tips on transporting pesticides safely and for pesticides that have unreadable or missing labels. The public should save any portion of the label to help identify the material for assistance with disposal. Unknown materials cannot be accepted.
Fertilizers, motor oil, bleach, or ammonia should not be submitted for collection at this event.
For pressurized pesticide gas cylinders or containers greater than five gallons in size, contact the Extension Office BEFORE the collection day for special instructions.
For more information about the cosponsored pesticide collection event, contact Mitch Smith at 252-714-1445.
