COUNTY OF PITT: Recognizes April as Child Abuse Prevention Month

County of Pitt issued the following announcement on Mar. 29.

Pitt County Department of Social Services along with Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina (PCANC) recognizes the importance of caring connections, supportive environments and positive experiences for all children and families during Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Month. Be a connection for NC children and families during Child Abuse Prevention Month and participate in several awareness opportunities scheduled throughout April. 

Friday, April 1 at 12:00 noon DSS staff will hold the annual “Planting of the Pinwheels” in front of the County Office Building, located at 1717 West 5th Street in Greenville.  Introduced in 2008 by Prevent Child Abuse America, the blue pinwheel serves as the national symbol for child abuse prevention through Pinwheels for Prevention®. All staff and those in attendance are encouraged to wear the color blue in support for “Wear Blue Day.” 

Week of April 1th – 9th The Greene Street Bridge, located at the Town Common, will be illuminated in blue every night during this week to amplify the importance of building strong foundations for the children in our communities.

Pitt County DSS will have booths at these two community events:

Saturday, April 16th 10am - 2pm "Spring Eggstravaganza" located at Greenfield Terrace Park 120 Park Access Rd. Greenville.  This free community event will have games, candy, egg hunt, medical screenings, employment support, school resources and more.  The event is sponsored by City of Greenville Recreation and Parks and National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) of Greenville.  Pitt County DSS will have booth with educational materials.

Saturday, April 30, 2022 10am - 2pm “Give Your Community A Boost” at Eppes Recreation Center located at 400 Nash Street, Greenville, NC 27834. 

Child maltreatment is a preventable problem and supporting families is essential to prevent child maltreatment. All adults play a role in creating caring connections and nurturing environments for the healthy development of our future generation of parents, leaders, and community members.
