COUNTY OF PITT: Notice Of Public Hearing: NC Commerce Building Reuse Grant

County of Pitt issued the following announcement on July 13.

Notice is hereby given that a Public Hearing will be held before the Pitt County Board of Commissioners at 6:00 pm on Monday, July 18, 2022 in the Eugene James Auditorium, Pitt County, 1717 W 5th St, Greenville, NC, pursuant to the provisions of NCGS 158-7.1, to consider economic development incentive appropriations for the purpose of aiding and encouraging industrial development.  

The Board will consider accepting a North Carolina Commerce Building Reuse Grant for $75,000 for Project Down East. The incentive would be contingent upon investment of $1,000,000 and the creation of  11 jobs in Pitt County with an average annual salary of $56,055.   

The Board will also consider being the applicant for two different grants, one from North Carolina Commerce Industrial Development Utility Account (expected amount $100,000) and a second from Golden LEAF (expected amount $100,000). These grants funds will be appropriated and expended to expand and extend public wastewater infrastructure in northern Pitt County near Pitt-Greenville Airport.  The  above referenced grants will be used towards funding the improvements which will increase the capacity for business expansion and development, potentially create new jobs, and increase the tax base.           

The benefits to the public expected to be derived from the development project as a result of the development incentives being considered by the County include:  the enhancement of the tax base of the County and the creation of new jobs.  Each grant will be supported by resolution and managed by the Pitt County Economic Development Department.   

The public is invited to attend the hearing at which time there will be an opportunity to be heard in favor of, or in opposition to, the above item.
