In a bold move, Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. has voted to impeach Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Citing the dire consequences of the border crisis and the secretary's alleged refusal to enforce federal law, Congressman Murphy expressed his reasoning behind this significant decision.

“On the first day of his administration, President Biden flew open America's southern border," Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. stated. "Secretary Mayorkas bears responsibility for the worst border crisis in our nation's history and is guilty of refusing to enforce federal law and lying to Congress and the public. This self-inflicted disaster has cost this nation over 450 billion dollars. Mayorkas' actions are unbecoming of a cabinet secretary and an affront to the American people who entrust our executives to lead with dignity and honor. Impeachment is one of the most serious actions Congress can take. We have a responsibility to judiciously test the merits of a case brought before us. It is clear Secretary Mayorkas has violated U.S. law. After carefully reviewing the validity of the two articles brought forth by the House Committee on Homeland Security, I voted to impeach Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas."

The decision to impeach Secretary Mayorkas comes as a result of the alarming border crisis that has plagued the country. With over 8.7 million illegal immigrants crossing the border and 1.7+ million known individuals evading the U.S. Border Patrol, the situation has reached unprecedented levels. Furthermore, the Committee on Homeland Security's Phase 1 Report on Evidence of DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas' Dereliction of Duty has shed light on the severity of the issue.

The report highlights that in the fiscal year 2023, 169 individuals whose names appeared on the terrorist watchlist were apprehended while attempting to cross the Southern Border. Shockingly, this number surpasses the encounters during the entirety of fiscal years 2017 to 2022 combined. This revelation raises significant concerns about national security and the effectiveness of border control measures.

Additionally, the report reveals that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized an alarming amount of fentanyl during fiscal year 2023. In fact, the amount seized was described as "enough fentanyl to kill the entire U.S. population." The consequences of this dangerous substance have been devastating, as fentanyl poisoning has now become the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18-45.

As the nation grapples with these challenges, Congressman Murphy's decision to vote for impeachment serves as a strong statement against the perceived failures of Secretary Mayorkas. The fate of the impeachment remains uncertain, but it is clear that the concerns surrounding the border crisis and the secretary's alleged misconduct have reached a critical point.

The implications of this impeachment vote will undoubtedly reverberate through the halls of Congress and the wider political landscape. As the nation seeks answers and solutions to the border crisis, the outcome of this impeachment process will shape the future of the Department of Homeland Security and its leadership.
