Washington, D.C. - Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. has voted to impeach Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, citing his responsibility for the crisis at the border, failure to enforce laws, and breach of public trust. The impeachment comes as a result of Mayorkas' actions and purposeful neglect of the nation's laws, which Congressman Murphy believes are unbecoming of the office he holds.

In a statement, Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. expressed his concerns, saying, "Secretary Mayorkas bears responsibility for the unprecedented crisis at our border, has failed to enforce laws passed by Congress, and has breached the public's trust." He further emphasized the impact of the crisis, stating that it has cost the nation over 450 billion dollars, accelerated human and drug trafficking, and endangered community safety.

Impeachment is a significant action granted to Congress in the Constitution, and Congressman Murphy acknowledged the gravity of the decision, saying, "It is a vote no Member of Congress takes glee in taking." After careful consideration of the Articles brought forth against Secretary Mayorkas, Congressman Murphy voted in favor of impeachment, believing that accountability is crucial for the leaders of the nation.

The crisis at the border has been a growing concern, with over 8.7 million illegal immigrants crossing the border and 1.7+ million known individuals evading the U.S. Border Patrol. These numbers highlight the severity of the situation and the need for effective measures to address it.

Additionally, during the fiscal year 2023, 169 individuals whose names appeared on the terrorist watchlist were stopped while attempting to cross the Southern Border. This number surpasses the encounters in the previous six fiscal years combined, underscoring the urgency of border security.

Furthermore, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported that they seized "enough fentanyl to kill the entire U.S. population" during the fiscal year 2023. Fentanyl poisoning has now become the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18-45. These alarming statistics demonstrate the urgent need for action to combat drug trafficking and protect American lives.

Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. has taken a stand against the dereliction of duty by DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. By voting in favor of impeachment, Congressman Murphy aims to hold leaders accountable for upholding the oath they made to the Constitution and the American people. The impeachment proceedings against Secretary Mayorkas represent a significant step towards addressing the crisis at the border and ensuring the safety and security of the nation.
