U.S. Rep. Greg Murphy (R-N.C.) said he wants to hold President Joe Biden accountable for his ‘disastrous open border policies.’ Murphy spoke out against the president for his decision to revoke “successful” border policies set forth by the Trump administration while affirming his support for H.Res.1065.

"On Biden's first day in office, he revoked successful immigration policies implemented by the Trump Administration and welcomed the invasion of our southern border," said Murphy, according to his post on X. "I voted YES to condemning President Biden and his disastrous open border policies."

The House Resolution 1065 (H.Res.1065), sponsored by U.S. Rep. Monica De La Cruz (R-Texas), said the Biden administration's immigration policies aren't working and advocated for the use of various immigration authorities. These include reinstating the Migrant Protection Protocols and forming asylum cooperative agreements, according to Congress.gov. The resolution argues that these authorities are not being effectively utilized by the administration.

According to a post on X by Murphy, since Biden assumed office, there have been over 10 million illegal crossings at our southern border. Among these instances, more than 340 individuals, whose names are on the terrorist watchlist, were intercepted while attempting to cross.

The U.S. Citizenship Act was introduced in the House on February 18, 2021. It proposes a pathway to citizenship for undocumented individuals through a new status known as lawful prospective immigrant. This status requires continuous presence since January 1, 2021, and successful background checks. The Act also grants permanent resident status to specific groups, redefines immigration terms, increases border patrol staffing, prohibits religious discrimination, and initiates grant programs for immigrant assistance as stated on the Congress Legislation webpage.

Murphy is currently serving his third term representing North Carolina’s Third Congressional District which encompasses significant areas of Eastern North Carolina. He holds key positions on committees including the House Ways and Means Committee, the House Veterans Affairs Committee, and the Committee on House Administration. Additionally, he co-chairs the House GOP Doctors Caucus. With academic honors from Davidson College and the University of North Carolina’s School of Medicine under his belt, Murphy is currently the only practicing surgeon among congressional members, according to the About Greg webpage provided by the House.
