North Carolina State Representative Gregory F. Murphy said that "only" former President Donald Trump can "fix" the border crisis, citing rising crime, human trafficking, and drug trafficking under Vice President Kamala Harris, who he referred to as the "Border Czar." Murphy made these remarks in an October 14 post on X.

"Only President Trump can fix the problems at the border because they have put our country in peril," said F. Murphy. "For all of those who have never visited the border and say, 'everything is just fine and dandy,' crime from illegal immigrants has skyrocketed as has human trafficking and drug trafficking. Harris, the 'Border Czar,' cannot run from her crisis."

According to Fox News, the U.S. Border Patrol Union has officially endorsed former President Trump. The union announced their unanimous support during a rally in Prescott Valley, Arizona, on October 13, 2024. Trump used this occasion to further his campaign efforts in Arizona, a key border-swing state.

NBC News reported that the term "border czar," frequently used by Republicans to criticize Harris, originated in March 2021 when she was tasked with managing the influx of migrants from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras due to violence and crime. These countries are part of the Northern Triangle region, which has experienced significant violence and organized crime leading to large-scale migration. Although the White House did not officially use the term "czar," it gained traction among critics as a way to describe her role in addressing migration issues.

Murphy is currently serving his third term representing North Carolina’s Third Congressional District, which includes significant regions of Eastern North Carolina. He holds key positions on several committees including the House Ways and Means Committee, the House Veterans Affairs Committee, and the Committee on House Administration. Additionally, he co-chairs the House GOP Doctors Caucus. With academic honors from Davidson College and the University of North Carolina’s School of Medicine, Murphy is noted as being the sole practicing surgeon among current congressional members according to information provided by House.gov.
