North Carolina State Representative Gregory F. Murphy has accused the Biden/Harris Department of Justice of manipulating crime data to downplay rising crime rates. Murphy said that America is "LESS safe" due to what he describes as the Democrats' "soft on crime" policies. His remarks were made in an October 17 post on X.
"The Biden/Harris administration's DOJ has been caught adjusting crime data quietly as to not arouse public interest," said F. Murphy. "Crime is actually UP, NOT down like many Democrats have been claiming. There is no logical reason that the Liberal ‘soft on crime' approach would lead to less crime. America is LESS safe due to their policies."
According to RealClearInvestigations, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) initially reported a 2.1% decrease in the nation's violent crime rate for 2022, which became a talking point for Democrats. However, the FBI later revised this data, revealing an actual increase of 4.5% in violent crimes, including murders, rapes, robberies, and aggravated assaults. The Bureau did not publicly acknowledge these changes.

The updated FBI data indicates there were 80,029 more violent crimes than in 2021, raising concerns about the accuracy of crime statistics due to potential underreporting. The National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) reported a 4.1% increase in violent crime for 2023, contrasting with the FBI's earlier reported decrease and highlighting discrepancies in crime data reporting. Additionally, according to RealClearInvestigations, the NCVS suggests that violent crime has risen by 55.4% during the Biden administration, prompting public concern over safety and the reliability of reported crime trends.
