Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. addressed the press following a crucial meeting with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) concerning the North Atlantic Right Whale Vessel Strike Reduction Rule.
"As the representative of 80% of North Carolina's coastline, I uniquely understand how destructive this rule would be to America's boatbuilders and fishermen. It could impact nearly 16,000 vessels across the Eastern Seaboard and jeopardize 810,000 jobs and $230 billion in economic activity," emphasized Congressman Murphy, underlining the potential repercussions of the proposed rule.
Expressing gratitude towards OMB Director Shalanda Young for engaging in the discussion, Congressman Murphy stated, "I am grateful that OMB Director Shalanda Young took the time to meet with me and my colleagues and committed to considering our serious concerns." He further added, "I have heard loud and clear the opposition from my constituents to this rule and will do everything I can to fight it."
In a firm stance against the proposed rule, Congressman Murphy asserted, "If finalized, I am prepared to introduce a Congressional Review Act resolution to overturn it and submit appropriations language to block the funding of it."
The meeting between Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D., and officials from NOAA and OMB signifies the ongoing efforts to address the potential impact of the North Atlantic Right Whale Vessel Strike Reduction Rule on various sectors and communities along the Eastern Seaboard.
