North Carolina State Representative Gregory F. Murphy stated that it is "an apolitical fact that human faculties decrease with age," and given the President's tenure marked by decisions and public blunders, it is evident that he is in "cognitive decline." Murphy made his statement in a June 5 post on X.
"An apolitical fact that human faculties decrease with age," said F. Murphy. "With a tenure marked by disastrous decisions by @POTUS (Afghanistan, the Border, Woke Military, et al), plus recurrent public gaffs, one cannot help but to conclude that this President is in cognitive decline."
Murphy's comment follows a report from Fox News stating that concerns have arisen about Biden's cognitive abilities, especially in private meetings with congressional members, amid continued scrutiny of his age and mental sharpness leading up to the upcoming presidential election. At 81, Biden, the oldest U.S. president, faces skepticism regarding his ability to effectively fulfill his duties.

According to Fox News, The Wall Street Journal released an exposition claiming that lawmakers and administration insiders, including both Republicans and some Democrats, voiced concerns about Biden's mental acuity during private meetings. Most criticisms came from Republicans, but some Democrats also observed instances where Biden's age seemed apparent. These assessments were provided by individuals who participated in or were briefed on the meetings, with contrasting views from administration officials and Democrats who did not share these concerns.
Rep. Murphy is in his third term representing North Carolina’s Third Congressional District, which includes significant regions of Eastern North Carolina. He holds key positions on committees including the House Ways and Means Committee, the House Veterans Affairs Committee, and the Committee on House Administration. He also co-chairs the House GOP Doctors Caucus. With academic honors from Davidson College and the University of North Carolina’s School of Medicine, he is the sole practicing surgeon among current congressional members, according to House.gov.
