FOIA Request Sent to Pitt County Election Department Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Pitt County Election Department on October 30, 2024. The request pertains to the pre-election testing reports of voting machines used in the recent elections.

As a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Greenville Reporter have asked for these records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1. We have specifically requested these documents in an electronic format for ease of access and analysis.

The FOIA request includes details such as the test date, machine manufacture, machine model number, and machine status (whether it passed or failed). This information is critical in assessing the integrity and reliability of the voting machines used during the election process.

As a member of the media committed to gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional given our role in disseminating information. We await a response from the Pitt County Election Department regarding this important matter.
