North Carolina State Representative Gregory F. Murphy has expressed concerns over "political discrimination" within federal agencies, emphasizing that such practices should have "no place" in these institutions. He is advocating for assistance to be provided to "all families" during crises. Murphy made this statement in a post on X dated November 16.

"Political discrimination has no place in our federal agencies," said Rep. Gregory F. Murphy. "It is unconscionable that Trump supporters would be left without help in a time of crisis. I joined @VernBuchanan in urging Administrator Criswell to provide ALL families with the assistance they deserve and to ensure this injustice will not happen again."

According to Buchanan, he and 54 other House colleagues have addressed a letter to FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell, seeking accountability following reports that a FEMA supervisor instructed staff to avoid homes displaying pro-Trump campaign signs during storm relief efforts. This alleged practice of political discrimination reportedly affected at least 20 homes in Florida and extended into the Carolinas. FEMA has denied these allegations, as said in a press release by Buchanan.

"FEMA has a responsibility to serve every American equally, regardless of political affiliation—especially in times of crisis," Buchanan said. He added that it is "deeply disturbing" for FEMA to allow political bias to influence its disaster relief efforts, calling it a violation of the agency's mission. Buchanan urged Administrator Criswell to ensure all affected residents are contacted, apologized to, and provided with necessary assistance.

Murphy is currently serving his third term representing North Carolina’s Third Congressional District, which encompasses significant areas of Eastern North Carolina. He holds key positions on several committees including the House Ways and Means Committee, the House Veterans Affairs Committee, and the Committee on House Administration. Additionally, he co-chairs the House GOP Doctors Caucus. With academic credentials from Davidson College and the University of North Carolina’s School of Medicine, Murphy is noted as the only practicing surgeon among current congressional members.
