Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D., currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing North Carolina’s 3rd district, has recently voiced his opinions on various issues through social media posts. Murphy, who succeeded Walter B. Jones Jr. in 2019 and previously served in the North Carolina House of Representatives, is known for his direct communication style.
On March 18, 2025, Congressman Murphy criticized a publication by Nature, questioning the role of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in science and medicine. He stated: "This nonsense, in @Nature of all places, shows how corrupt real science has become. DEI is divisive, degrading and unscientific. It has no place in Medicine or in Science. So discrimination is ok in Ethics these days?"
Later that day, Murphy addressed issues with Medicare Advantage plans via another post. He remarked: "Excellent evaluation on how Medicare Advantage, designed to be a good plan, has been hijacked by Insurance Companies to upside snd over charge the American taxpayer. Reform is needed NOW"
On March 19, 2025, Congressman Murphy questioned the actions of medical schools and the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) regarding the protection of Jewish medical students across the nation. He tweeted: "What are our Medical Schools and @AAMCtoday doing to protect Jewish medical students across the nation? Other than pushing Climate Justice and Racial Division, it is time for the leadership to get to their responsibility of protecting ALL students."
