COUNTY OF PITT: WIC Office Begins Issuing Farmers Market Vouchers

County of Pitt issued the following announcement on July 4.

It’s the perfect time to purchase locally grown produce at the Leroy James Farmers Market located at 4560 County Home Rd., Greenville, NC 27858.

Eligible WIC (Women’s, Infants and Children) clients including pregnant, breastfeeding, partially-breastfeeding and postpartum women, and children ages 2 through 4 will receive the coupons.

Each person who is eligible will receive a one-time issuance of six coupons worth $5.00 each (for a total of $30.00 for each person). Applicants must live in North Carolina, meet income guidelines, and have an identified nutrition/medical risk factor.

The program has started and the vouchers are distributed throughout the summer, but may not last until summer officially ends.

Fruits and vegetables are in plentiful supply during this time of the season and bursting with flavor!  And, the health benefits are endless.  The more colors the better because each contains vitamins, minerals and fiber, which can boost the immune system and improve overall health.   These foods may also help prevent diabetes and aid in weight management.
