WASHINGTON, D.C. — On July 27, 2023, Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) voted against H.R. 4366, the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2024, legislation that fails to honor our commitment to our servicemembers and their families.

"The Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2024 falls short of providing the crucial support needed by our military families," said Congressman Davis. "Our brave servicemembers, who courageously put their lives on the line for our country, deserve nothing less than adequate family housing, access to child development centers, and adequate work environments. We must prioritize and address the military construction backlog to ensure our servicemembers have the support they need and deserve to perform their mission.”

In the MilCon-VA Appropriations bill, Congressman Davis emphasized the need to support our military families and the work environment. The package strips out funds for PFAS contamination cleanup, yet another provision that would disproportionately harm our state.

Provisions in the MilCon- VA Bill:

  • Worsens the quality of life for servicemembers and their families and hurts military readiness by cutting military construction by over $1.5 billion compared to the current level.
  • Slashes funding to address critical military infrastructure backlog, affecting the readiness and efficiency of our military installations.
  • Reduces military family housing for servicemembers and their families by $15 million at a time they can least afford it.
  • Cuts dedicated funding for PFAS remediation and cleanup.
As Vice Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness, Congressman Davis staunchly opposes cutting funds that provide critical support to our military families. He emphasizes the crucial need for unwavering support for the men and women who serve our country, ensuring those who are courageously serving our nation receive the care and support they deserve.

Congressman Davis will continue to fight in Congress for the well-being of our servicemembers and their families for a brighter future for eastern North Carolina and the American people.
