Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D., representing North Carolina's 3rd district, shared a series of tweets highlighting various topics and events. His social media activity covered the efforts of a veterans' organization in hurricane relief, a commentary on medical school admissions practices, and a visit to a museum construction site.
On November 24, 2024, Congressman Murphy expressed gratitude towards Emerald Isle for Veterans for their contributions to those affected by Hurricane Helene. He noted that the organization has made significant efforts by conducting "90 trips to the mountains for relief efforts," providing essential support such as campers for displaced families. "Thank you to Emerald Isle for Veterans for the impact they have made in the lives of those affected by Hurricane Helene."
Later that day, Murphy addressed an issue concerning medical school admissions. He questioned whether it is appropriate to consider participation in Black Lives Matter protests as part of candidate evaluations. Murphy commended the University of Georgia (UGA) for focusing on merit-based criteria rather than political activities in their admissions process. "Is it right to ask prospective medical students if they marched in a BLM protest as a means of candidacy?"
On November 26, 2024, Murphy visited the construction site of the Carolina Museum of the Marine. During his visit, he met with MajGen Shrader, who was recently announced as CEO of the museum. Murphy expressed appreciation for how the museum will honor marines and sailors once completed. "Today, I had the opportunity to tour the construction site of the Carolina Museum of the Marine."
